چکیده

In recent years, emotion recognition has attracted extensive interest in signal processing, artificial intelligence and pattern recognition due to its potential applications to human-computer-interaction (HCI). Most previously published works in the field of emotion recognition devote to performing emotion recognition by using either affective speech or facial expression. However, Affective speech and facial expression are mainly two important ways of human emotion expression, as they are the most natural and efficient manners for human beings to communicate their emotions and intentions. In this paper, we aim to develop a multimodal emotion recognition system integrating affective speech with facial expression and investigate the performance of multimodal emotion recognition at the feature-level and at the decision-level. After extracting acoustic features and facial features related to human emotion expression, the popular support vector machines (SVM) classifier is employed to perform emotion classification. Experimental results on the benchmarking eNTERFACE’05 emotional database indicate that the given approach of multimodal emotion recognition integrating affective speech with facial expression obtains obviously superior performance to the single emotion recognition approach, i.e., speech emotion recognition or facial expression recognition. The best performance obtained by using the product rule at the decision-level fusion is up to 67.44%. . Key-Words: Mutimodal emotion recognition, affective speech, facial expression, support vector machines, speech emotion recognition, facial expression recognition

Music-aided affective interaction between human and service robot

This study proposes a music-aided framework for affective interaction of service robots with humans. The framework consists of three systems, respectively, for perception, memory, and expression on the basis of the human brain mechanism. We propose a novel approach to identify human emotions in the perception system. The conventional approaches use speech and facial expressions as representativ...

A Novel Multimodal Emotion Recognition Approach for Affective Human Robot Interaction

Facial expressions and speech are elements that provide emotional information about the user through multiple communication channels. In this paper, a novel multimodal emotion recognition system based on visual and auditory information processing is proposed. The proposed approach is used in real affective human robot communication in order to estimate five different emotional states (i.e., hap...

Towards Formal Multimodal Analysis of Emotions for Affective Computing

Social robotics is related to the robotic systems and human interaction. Social robots have applications in elderly care, health care, home care, customer service and reception in industrial settings. Human-Robot Interaction (HRI) requires better understanding of human emotion. There are few multimodal fusion systems that integrate limited amount of facial expression, speech and gesture analysi...

Multimodal expression for humanoid robots by integration of human speech mimicking and facial color

Multimodal expression is essential for humanoid robots to communicate with people naturally and intelligibly. This paper describes multimodal expression for humanoid robots by mimicking human speech with the ability of expression through “facial colors” . Currently the robot is able to express joy (by turning yellow in the face), anger (red), sadness (blue), and relaxation (green). These colors...

Bimodal Emotion Recognition: A Comparative Study of Rule Based System Vs Classification Algorithms

Emotions can be understood in a face to face interaction immediately while in a human computer interaction (HCI) this response is limited. Research studies have been undertaken to investigate and develop various approaches and technology to incorporate emotions in HCI. One major concern of HCI now is the need to improve the interactions between humans and computers through justifications and ex...
